When your event gathers C-level executives, you had better pull out all stops to ensure a superlative networking experience, says Sam Lippman, producer, Exhibition and Convention Executives Forum (ECEF).
Constantly tweaking and improving the networking experience is our motivation at the Exhibition and Convention Executives Forum (ECEF).
Eight ways Lippman Connects has improved its networking strategy at ECEF:
- In advance, we email registrants a roster of attendees, including photos
- An updated hard-copy roster (with photos) is distributed onsite
- The Networking Reception is exactly as titled. Held in a rectangular room, the lights are up and the music is low. There are no barriers to networking
- Meals are an opportunity to meet, connect, and discuss. No speeches, no videos, no distractions
- Because ECEF mixes executives from associations and independent organisers, seating is assigned at lunch to guarantee everyone will make fresh connections
- Assigned seating at lunch also gives sponsors a relaxed environment to engage with pre-selected prospects.
- Every attendee stands up for a self-introduction while his/her image is projected on a large screen. Tent cards further facilitate identification
- Small things make a big difference: we don’t use lanyards. Badges are just easier to read. It is less intimidating to greet a stranger when you know their name
